A couple of interesting ideas in recent papers.  In the FT on Saturday, David Hockney wrote:

"photography came out of painting, and because of Photoshop is returning to it".

In the Guardian today, from Jonathan Jones

"Painting is a transfiguration of reality by the painter's imagination, a photograph is a deposit of light onto paper or digital memory"
